Aqua Bond offers two products for brewers with stainless steel passivation requirements on their SS tanks. Many traditionalist perfer to passivate their processing tanks with the traditional mineral acid such as nitric acid and phosphoric acid (Acid #5). We designed our Brewery Acid 5 with these acids and a friendly surfactant package that is low foaming to meet your requirements. It is used to remove inorganic deposits such as calcium carbonate (limestone), calcium phosphate, calcium oxylate (beer stone) or milk stone and even iron oxide (rust).
Beer stone is a precipitate of calcium oxalate and protein. All surfaces in the brewery that come into contact with wort and beer are susceptible to this deposit, but some of the biggest problems will occur in heat exchangers, fermentation vessels, aging tanks, kegs, and beer dispense lines. However where beer stone has already taken over one will need to use Brewery Acid 5 or equivalent acid cleaner (SpotlessTM CitraPass SS) which has the right mixtures of acid, chelator, and surfactant to remove the stubborn whitish film buildup (beerstone). On the other hand, because of the hazards associated with handling these acids and disposing cost afterwards we have also given you the choice of a friendlier, biodegradable, more environmentally responsible product SpotlessTM CitraPass SS, which is an excellent CIP Acid cleaner for removing scale and passivator for SS.
