Calcium Chloride has many applications in a variety of markets. Surface Finishing Chemistries used in plating in aerospace, automotive, functional and decorative hardware all create waste water requiring treatment processes that could benefit from calcium chloride solutions for the removal of fluorides, phosphates, heavy metals, and oily waste, since it is so economical.

The construction industry for cement still uses calcium chloride as accelerator additive in their admixture since it is inexpensive, especially in the summer for coloured cement or in cold conditions. However, there are better admixture accelerators for cement and concrete applications.

Food grade calcium chloride is used as a sequestrant and firming agent in the food industry to keep pickles and canned fruits and vegetables crisp and crunchy. In Europe, food grade calcium is assigned E number E509 as an accepted and safe practice in food. It is commonly used in brines during cucumber fermentation and pickle storage to maintain firmness and enhance flavour. Food grade calcium chloride is regarded as a safe preservative commonly used as anti-browning agent for fruits and vegetables. In cheese making, calcium chloride is sometimes added to processed (pasteurized/homogenized) milk to restore the natural balance between calcium and protein in casein. It is added before the coagulant. In the Brewery industry calcium chloride plays an important role. According to the literature, proper calcium levels in beer can lower pH, preserve mash enzymes, increase extract yield, improve yeast growth and flocculation, while accelerating oxalate removal, and reducing colour. It is believed the chloride ion promotes palate fullness, sweetness, and mellowness in the beer profile.

The fracking industry for oil, gas, and petroleum uses calcium chloride in a myriad of applications; incorporated in mud drilling additive for reduction in shale wetting, water absorption for drying petroleum fractions, additive for increasing density oil well fluids, and cement accelerator for capping oil wells.
