Food Grade Citric Acid is an effective acidifying agent, antioxidant, and preservative. Citric acid is mainly used in the food and beverage industry as acidity regulator, flavoring agent, and preservative. Citric acid is used in food production, as an alternative to vinegar or lemon juice, where a pure acid is needed. Citric acid can also be added to ice cream as an emulsifying agent to keep fats from separating and to caramel to prevent sucrose crystallization.

Citrate salts of different metals are used to deliver those minerals in a biologically available form in many dietary supplements. Citric acid is combined with sodium bicarbonate in many effervescent products, both for ingestion (e.g., powders and tablets) and for personal care (e.g., bath salts, bath bombs, and cleaning of grease).

Citric acid is an environmentally friendly cleaning agent for personal care products and cleaners. Citric acid chelates to the metals in hard water, which increases the effectiveness of soaps and detergents. Citric acid is the active ingredient in some bathroom and kitchen cleaning products. It is used to remove and prevent limescale deposits from boilers and evaporators. Citric acid essentially provides acidity, chelates metal ions, and buffers pH.
