Potassium Chloride fine treated, also known as Muriate of Potash (MOP) is an ionic compound salt, which naturally occurs as a white or colourless solid but in some parts of the world it may have reddish tint from traces of iron ore in the sylvinite ore. The source from western Canada is normally white or colourless, which we bag at 25 kg. The material we represent is fine and treated with no impact on acid zinc chloride plating. We have been selling this grade since 2010. One has to be careful of treated potassium chloride since some of the anticaking agent negatively impact the zinc plating process.
Potassium Chloride has many uses; primarily as electrolytes, pH buffer, preparation of fertilizers, explosives, potassium metals and caustic potash. Potassium and chloride electrolytes are essential for various functions; (blood pressure, homeostasis, kidney function, cell communication, pH buffering) of the human body and animal health. It is important in medicine and impacts food processing in a number of ways; by food enrichment of potassium, offset by reduction of sodium, microbial management, protein modification, and flavour enhancement changing the taste, texture, and shelf life of products. We see this every day as a food additive in baby formulas, meats, cereals, soups, and sauces just to mention a few. Other applications of this non-combustible metal halide are; anti-freeze and deicing products for roads and driveways, softener in water treatment, clay stabilizer in fracking petroleum and natural gas, not to mention paints and coatings and other scientific applications.
