SBXTM Elite is a room temperature (20oC to 30oC) instant blackening process (two to three minutes) for ferrous metals; cold and hot rolled carbon steels, alloy steels, tool steels, forged steels, powdered metals, and cast iron. SBXTM Elite was not designed and does not blackened any of the ferritic or martensitic stainless steel. SBXTM Elite finds application in tools, fasteners, firearms, inside furniture, indoor steel sculptures, steel sheets, and interior architectural surfaces. It will produce different shades of black, brown, blue, and iridescent patterns based on concentration, time, and type of metallurgy substrate. See TDS.
SBXTM Elite will produce a black finish equivalent in depth and corrosion resistance to the best conventional hot black oxide processes. The decorative "noir" finish is esthetically appealing, which increases product value and salability. The finish will not chip, craze, or peel making it very durable. It is non-dimensional and will not interfere with the function of metal parts the way paints does. The black oxide coating porosity in conjuction with selective oil, waxes, water based lacquer, or clear topcoats accentuates the decorative element of the coating and provides corrosion protection to iron and steel. It is the seal coat and not the oxide that gives the corrosion protection. The blackened parts retain their substrate properties with heat-treated parts retaining their hardness, and polished surfaces keeping their gloss. Tool integrity is preserved and critically sized parts can be finished without compromise. The process is more economical than painting or plating saving time and money.
