Ammonium Hydroxide 26º Bé

Ammonium Hydroxide 26° Bé has many different applications. It is a popular cleaning agent and highly effective for cleaning glass since the ammonia evaporates quickly avoiding streaking.  It is an ingredient found in many cleaning products  used to clean surfaces in bathrooms and kitchen. The ammonium hydroxide effectively breaks down stains and grime from vegetable oil and animal fat. In furniture it also plays a role in darkening the wood; it reacts with the tannins in the wood.  It is used in water treatment to purify water supplies as a stabilizer, neutralizer, and source of nitrogen. In addition it is used to produce monochloramine, which is a disinfectant that remains active in stagnant water.

In industry, ammonia is used in various metallurgical processes such as nitriding of alloy sheets to harden their surface.  Since ammonia can be decomposed easily to yield hydrogen, it is a convenient portable source of atomic hydrogen for welding.  It can be used as a coolant since it can absorb substantial amounts of heat from its surroundings: one gram of ammonia absorbs 327 calories of heat.  In manufacturing of water based lacquers it can be used for pH adjustment.
