CBX™ 18

CBX™ 18 is a concentrated cold process patina for brown tones on brass, bronze, and copper surfaces. It was specifically designed for traditional brown with no underlying red on Muntz metal. CBX™18 is a cold process patina designed for antique brown on muntz metal (bronze) without any red under tone. The Muntz 280 Metal comprises of 60% Cu and 40% Zn. The UNS no. is C28000. The product produces other colour tones on copper, brass, and bronze surfaces. The different range of colours is largely testimonial of craftmanship experience. Chemical colouring techniques depend upon time, temperature, surface, preparation, mineral content of the water, humidity and other variables, which influence the ultimate results.

At ambient temperature CBX™ 18 with concentration of 40 to 50% with preferrably DI water (tap water) submersion will consistently produce antique brown at 60 seconds or less under the right conditions taking the aforementioned parameters into account in the above paragraph. Some tap water is more problematic depending on the mineral content. Humidity in the air can also wreak havoc. Submersion or intermittent spray on technique with layering will also produce similar results, based on operator preference.
